Save a horse, ride the cowboy trend. If there was one take away from the 2018 rodeo, I mean runway, it was western wear. I’m sure you have mastered prairie dresses, the Texas Tux, and fringe…everything by now, but the final frontier? The cowboy boot.
It’s time to kick the dust up, partner. If Calvin Klein, Chloé & Isabel Marant are all aboard, so can you. These boots are the must have shoe for the foreseeable future and yes, they are made for walkin’.
Read on for my picks at every price point, and how to pull these off when you’re not home on range. Saddle up, friends.
Keeping your look tonal is the easiest way to stay uptown, instead of down home. I am partial to black, because it adds a bit of edge and sleekness, but any neutral color will work.
A preppy plaid works surprisingly well with a cowboy boot. Think an oversized plaid blazer or a plaid mini skirt. We are talking Glen or Windowpane check, not your boyfriend’s flannel shirt. The collegiate print is a fresh juxtaposition to the western influence.
3. DOUBLE DENIM
I get it, at first glance head to toe denim paired with a boot sounds like a straight up episode of Walker, Texas Ranger. But, keep the wash dark and in a modern silhouette and you will be streetstyle gold.
4. WORK APPROPRIATE
Get suited and booted with a crisp white shirt dress. Howdy, Partner gets a whole new meaning at the office.
5. EXTRA DRESSING
A free flowing dress feels like an obvious choice with a cowboy boot, but in an interesting color the pairing feels new again. Of the moment colors include lavender, canary, and red. Keep the dress airy for an effortless look.
6. THE DETAILS
My favorites this season? Metal tipped, crocodile, and intricate stitching. For color, you will find the most versatility with black, white, or oxblood. I would shy away from a typical brown boot – too many bad memories from the 90s and early 2000s. Mules are an easy way to ease into the trend, however you will find everything from ankle to over the knee on the runway and the streets.
Giddy up, girls. Get em’ while they’re hot!
