Release the pool floats, crack open the windows, and schedule a pedicure – it’s officially summer. Well, maybe not officially, but Memorial Day Weekend signifies what’s in store. If you are anything like me, you literally had not thought about summer attire until you had nothing to wear to this past weekend’s BBQ. So, to prevent future blank stares into the black hole of our closets, I am devoting this post to summer weekending.
Summer is all about simplicity. When the temperature gauge hits over 80, we want everything to be easy. Here are 5 pieces to insert in your wardrobe to take you from errands to backyard bbqs.
The straw bag is the quintessential trend of the season. Purchase now and you won’t take it off your arm all summer long. Wear it with a floaty frock for night or tote to the beach for day.
I am all about minimalism for summer. A barely there sandal in a beautiful leather adds sleekness and richness to every look. Pair with everything from a beach cover up, denim, or even a wide-leg trouser.
You wear them everyday, they cover your makeup-less face when you’re lazy (or sunburned), and they instantly elevate your look. Invest in designer sun and you won’t regret it. The silhouettes that are trending now are cat eye and oversized aviators with a twist.
Last year it was the ubiquitous off-the-shoulder top. This year it’s taking a more simplified approach with a focus on fabrications. Tight weave crochet, linens, smocking, and silk in easy V-neck or square-neck tanks are the shirt du jore. You can wear it with everything from denim, to shorts, to swing skirts.
The last place you will find me in the dead of summer is in a pair of skinny jeans. Sorry guys, it’s not me, it’s you, and I need some space. Literally. Swap for the classic Levis fit in a medium wash. They’re here to stay and perfect for the season.
