I am sad to report that black did not make it on Pantone’s color report for Spring 2018. Will the underdog ever have its day? But, on a more vibrant note, a bold and lively yellow, termed Meadowlark, did rise to the top this season.
Athleisure? That’s so last year.
What was once reserved for poolside lazing and farmer’s market grazing, is now the it-bag that transcends all seasons and sensibility.
They say blondes have more fun. Brassy chicks, on the other hand, are having a terrible time. When you spend 3 hours and a questionable amount of money on hand painted balayage only to have your platinum turn 50 shades of yellow a few weeks later, it’s time for a blon-tervention.
My weather report for the foreseeable future is leather. The sumptuous, buttery fabrication is one of the few fashion items known to withstand the test of time and trends. So, move over Harley riders, lead singers, and moody 90s teenagers, leather is anyone’s game.
While my typical life motto is, “I’ll stop wearing black when they make a darker color”, sometimes you need to mix it up. Quite literally to be exact. The fashion gods have named print mixing as one of the top trends for 2018.
Let’s call a spade a spade, denim is the fabric of our lives. No longer reserved for weekend wear or passing fads, denim is a fashion category. Walk one block at NYFW and you’ll find more runways and street style stars donning denim than Starbucks.
Reflective of the current social climate, a collective takeaway from the Spring runways was self-expression and strength. Power dressing continued to build its momentum from SP2017 and proved it is not stepping down.
